Shosholoza Meyl to Run Additional 446 Trains Over the Festive Season
Shosholoza Meyl, the long-distance passenger rail service of Spoornet, today announced that due to an increase in demand, 446 additional trains to all major destinations would be available between 1 December 2006 and 5 January 2007. The company urged passengers to book and buy return tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. Bookings can be made through Shosholoza Meyl Central reservations on 086 000 8888.
Additional security will also be provided for to ensure the safety of passengers and their luggage and the South African Police Services will be deployed on certain routes. Only passengers with a valid ticket will be allowed onto platforms and access gates will close 10 minutes prior to the departure of the train.
