Train derailment
Spoornet regrets to announce that a freight train en route to Botswana derailed at Groot-Marico this morning. The driver of the train tragically passed away.
Four locomotives carrying 29 wagons derailed. Emergency personnel and Spoornet engineers are on the scene making the necessary repairs to open the line. It is anticipated that the line will be re-opened some time tomorrow.
The cause of the derailment is still unknown, but an investigation has been launched.
