Train Accident
At approximately 23:07 last night a Shosholoza Meyl passenger train (Trans Karoo train 18007), collided with The Blue Train which was stationary at Deelfontein between De Aar and Beaufort West. The Blue Train was en route from Pretoria to Cape Town and the Trans Karoo was en route from Cape Town to Pretoria.
There were no fatalities and preliminary reports indicate that 16 passengers sustained minor injuries. Those injured were evacuated to hospital in De Aar.
All emergency services and Spoornet engineering and technical teams were activated at 00:15 this morning. Spoornet has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
